BEIJING - Chinese sports officials struck a deal to bring the Olympics to Beijing, promising to support Jacques Rogges bid to head the International Olympic Committee in return for European backing for Beijings bid, according to a recently released memoir. Elton Brand Jersey . Retired sports minister and president of the Chinese Olympic Committee, Yuan Weimin, describes in his book the alleged arrangements surrounding Beijings Olympic bid in 2001. European members of the IOC verbally agreed to support Beijing for the 2008 Games in exchange for Chinese support for Rogge. Canada would have been hurt on both ends of the deal, as Toronto was competing against Beijing for the Olympics while Dick Pound of Montreal was running against Rogge. The IOC denied the accusation made in the book "Yuan Weimin and the Sports World." "Jacques Rogge was elected IOC president by a large majority," the committee said in a statement from Lausanne, Switzerland. "As a candidate, he built his campaign on a strong program that was widely welcome by IOC members. Any insinuation that deals would have been made is absolutely false." Yuan wrote that while there was no written agreement from either party, multiple meetings yielded a mutual understanding of support if Rogge won the election. "The Beijing Olympic bid committee decided on a tactic of strategic alliance-making. We would link Chinese support for Rogge in exchange for European committee members support for Beijing," Yuan said in his memoir. "Of course, we also made some promises to link up with some of our friends in supporting Rogge. This tactic was our overall strategy." Beijing went on to win the 2001 vote in Moscow, defeating Toronto, Paris, Istanbul and Osaka after two rounds of voting. Beijing received 56 votes in the second round, followed by Toronto with 22. Rogge, a Belgian who had headed the European Olympic Committees, was elected IOC president at the same meeting in Moscow. He defeated four other candidates and received a winning majority of 59 votes in the second round, more than double the votes of Kim Un-yong of South Korea (23) and Pound (22). Rogge was re-elected to a final four-year term this month in Copenhagen. Yuans book offers a small glimpse into the fevered politicking that surrounded the Moscow meeting in 2001. A former Olympic sailor and orthopedic surgeon, Rogge was vying to take over an IOC trying to recover from corruption scandals surrounding previous Olympic bids. Beijing, meanwhile, was trying to become the first Chinese host for the Games in a quest that had become a matter of national pride. Yuans book, ghost-written by Yuan Shan, said not all in the Chinese delegation went along with the alleged deal. The book said a senior Chinese IOC official who was not identified voted against Rogge and instead backed Kim. The unnamed official is believed to be He Zhenliang, an IOC member since 1981 who is serving his final year in the 112-member committee. "A senior Chinese member in the IOC purposely defied our strategies and nominated IOC member Kim Un-yong, causing awkwardness for the Beijing Olympic Committee," Yuan wrote in his memoir. RALEIGH, N. Dwight Gooden Jersey .C. - Boston coach Claude Julien listed David Krejci as his No. 3 skater for the shootout, just like before. This time, it lasted long enough for Krejcis turn - and he made the most of his chance. Krejci scored in the third round of the shootout to cap the Bruins 3-2 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday night. I put him as our third shooter last time, and we didnt need him, Julien said. It wasnt a hunch. . When we watched him during our practice doing that stuff, he was one of our better ones, so I thought it was a good time to let him try it. Last time I did, and he never had a chance to go. Phil Kessel scored one round earlier and Tim Thomas stopped 45 shots before turning away the Hurricanes two attempts in the shootout for Boston, which blew a late 2-0 lead by allowing two goals in the final 63 seconds. For 59 minutes, I thought we played some pretty good hockey, Julien said. Its unfortunate that some mistakes at the end ended up hurting us, as far as going into overtime and into the shootout. We had our best players out there, and they didnt do the job in that last minute. Kessel struck first in the shootout when he slipped the puck between Cam Wards legs in Round 2. One round later, Krejci clinched it when his wrist shot got past Wards glove. I was actually really surprised that (Kessels shot) went through me, Ward said. I thought I was with him the entire way. I guess my stick wasnt in the right place (and) it slipped through. Marc Savard had a goal and an assist and Zdeno Chara scored for Boston, which scored twice on the power play against the leagues worst penalty kill and denied Carolina the first sweep of the Bruins in franchise history. Ray Whitney and Erik Cole both scored in the final 63 seconds of regulation to tie it for Carolina. Whitney beat Thomas with a slap shot from the left side with 1:03 left and Cole followed with a wrist shot to tie it with 42.9 seconds remaining. I thought we were really attacking and it was just a matter of time, said centre Eric Staal, who had two assists. It just ended up being the last minute. Ward made 36 saves - and gloved a hard blast from a wide-open Andrew Ference as overtime expired - for the Southeast Division-leading Hurricanes. In its last home game against Florida, Carolina rallied from a two-goal, third-period deficit and claimed a come-from-behind victory over the Panthers. Three nights later, the Hurricanes staged another rally that ultimately fell short in the shootout against a Bruins team that entered having lost five of seven overall and had dropped its past four in the series. I feel like we dont get rewarded tonight for what we did, Carolina coach Peter Laviolette said. You fire 47 shots on net, you certainly wouldnt think youd have to wait until the last minute to try and tie up a hockey game. Thomas was particularly dominant against Carolinas injury-depleted lineup in flirting with the sixth shutout of his career, before Whitney got the Hurricanes offence going in the final moments. This is a team that shoots from everywhere, Julien said. Tim had to make some big saves at crucial times, and that kept us with the lead. Savard gave Boston a 2-0 lead late in the second period when, 22 seconds after Scott Walker was called for slashing, he took a pass from Dennis Wideman at the top of the right circle and blasted a slap shot past Wards glove. Earlier, he assisted on Charas goal about five minutes in. Savard, who entered with 51 assists and was tied with two other players for the league lead, passed to Marco Sturm. He then found Chara near the crease and the Bruins captain stuffed it past Ward for his 11th goal. This team is growing. Were coming together, Savard said. Notes: Wideman skated in his 200th NHL game. . Carolina fell to 4-9-1 when playing on the second of consecutive days. Troy Tulowitzki Jersey . The high expectations and the anticipation I had about China have become reality. My window overlooks the sports field, which makes me feel a strong yearning to participate in the activities underway. A group of students plays soccer, but to my surprise the field is very small. Yet within a few minutes of play, they are all panting, sweating and breathless because they have much more interaction than on the vast fields in my country. Another group plays basketball - they bump the ball aimlessly for hours on end. A gentleman is making slow and steady moves with ease in one corner of the college green. I imitate his moves in my room and find it very painful. My study program will include taichi and my hope is that I will learn some before flying home in November. My first Sunday includes is a visit to the Badaling Great Wall. As we travel there, I am shocked by the great speeds drivers maintain. Our huge college bus careens around small cars as it heads to the monumental site. My mind wanders - brake failure, my young children, the few goats I keep at my rural home, my wife. But despite my wariness, I have not personally witnessed a single accident since I came to Beijing. Matt Williams Jersey. The walk up to the wall is indeed an uphill struggle. In Zimbabwe, children are no longer surprised by the sight of the Chinese who have become an integral part of our lives. My government has embarked on a deliberate Look East policy, the fruits of which include my studies in Beijing. A few days later as I watch CCTV, I see the newsreader is Vimbai Kajese, a Zimbabwean, which gives me a deep sense of pride. As I watch the news, I learn that NPC Chairman Wu Bangguo is visiting Cuba, the US and other countries. It reminds me of his visit to Zimbabwe in November, 2004. It jogs my memory of the other great sons of China who have visited my country including Jia Qinglin, chairman of the Chinese Peoples Political Consultative Conference, in April 2007. A deep sense of enthusiasm has built in my mind. I yearn for hard work to make my own country prosper, like the Chinese attitude and concentration toward work. Although PSG has yet to confirm whether the Italian will replace Antoine Kombouare, the former Chelsea, AC Milan and Juventus manager has been spotted with the French clubs sporting director Leonardo this week at Parc des Princes. Although theyve gained points in consecutive losses, the Flames are not helping their postseason cause with their recent 0-1-2 stretch. Calgary has fallen into a tie with San Jose for the 10th seed in the West and is two points behind Los Angeles and Phoenix for the conferences eighth and final playoff berth. The Kings and Coyotes are in action tonight against St. Louis and Colorado, respectively. The Flames, who are 6-2-3 in March, were dealt a 2-1 overtime loss in Colorado on Tuesday, as David Jones scored with 1:09 left in OT. The victory allowed the Avalanche to jump into the seventh seed in the West, one point ahead of the Kings and Coyotes and three in front of Calgary. Matt Hunwick skated the puck in down the left wing during the winning sequence and dished it over to Paul Stastny, who got to the net and put on a shot on Miikka Kiprusoff. The save was made, but Jones was there to stuff in the rebound. Matt Stajan scored the lone goal while Kiprusoff stopped 31 shots for the Flames. (Sports Network) - The Edmonton Oilers will look for their second straight win at home tonight when they play host to the Chicago Blackhakws at Rexall Place. Julius Peppers Nike Jersey . The Oilers posted a 4-7-2 record in January, but they did win two of three to close the month. Edmonton posted a 3-2 win Tuesday against visiting Colorado, as Taylor Halls goal early in the third period proved to be the game-winner. "It was nice to get that one and hold on in the end. Nice to get the win," Hall said. Eric Belanger and Jordan Eberle also lit the lamp for the Oilers, while Devan Dubnyk made 31 saves for the win. Oilers rookie forward Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is close to returning from a left shoulder injury that he suffered in Chicago on Jan. 2, but he isnt expected to play tonight. The No. 1 overall pick from the 2011 draft is leading all rookies with 35 points despite missing the last 12 games. Edmonton is 13-8-3 as the host this year and is playing the middle test of a three-game homestand tonight. The Oilers will complete the residency Saturday against Detroit. The return of two of Chicagos top forwards meanwhile wasnt enough to halt the clubs losing streak in their last outing. Now the Blackhawks will try to avoid matching their longest skid of the season tonight. The Blackhawks have lost three straight for the fourth time this year and another setback tonight will tie Chicagos season-high skid that lasted from Jan. 2-8. Chicago captain Jonathan Toews and Patrick Sharp both returned from injuries on Tuesday, but that couldnt prevent the Blackhawks from dropping an overtime decision in Vancouver. The recent slump has dropped the Blackhawks into a tie with St. Louis for the fifth seed in the West and third in the Central Division. Chicago is still only four points behind Detroit for first in the division as well as the top seed in the West. The Blackhawks have lost two of three against the Oilers this season and Chicago was thoroughly embarrassed the last time it visited Edmonton. The Oilers slammed the visiting Hawks by a 9-2 score back on Nov. 19, as Taylor Hall notched a hat trick. Ray Emery started in net for Chicago, but was pulled after surrendering seven goals on 27 shots. The Oilers, who are seeded 14th out of 15 teams in the West, have won four of the last seven meetings with Chicago. The Blackhawks had won six straight in Edmonton before getting routed back in November. The Blackhawks have lost their last four road games and were dealt an overtime setback Tuesday in Vancouver. The 3-2 setback kicked off a nine-game road trip for Chicago, which is 10-9-3 on the road this year compared to a 19-6-4 mark in the Windy City. The current swing is tied for the longest stretch of consecutive road games in franchise history. Daniel Sedin scored 3:37 into OT to give the Canucks the win over Chicago on the first night of NHL action following the All-Star break. Jamal Mayers and Viktor Stalberg scored for the Blackhawks, while Corey Crawford made 30 saves in the loss. "I felt like we definitely played well enough to win tonight," said Crawford. "Its definitely frustrating." Toews had missed one game before the break with an upper-body injury and had one assist and five shots on net in Tuesdays loss. KANSAS CITY, Kan. Dwyane Wade Jersey . - Amado Guevara scored twice in the second half, leading Toronto FC to a 3-2 victory over the Kansas City Wizards in the teams MLS season opener Saturday night. Jim Brennan also scored in Torontos first win against the Wizards, which came despite two thundering goals by Kansas Citys Davy Arnaud. Toronto, an expansion team in 2007, had scored only once in the teams six previous matches. That goal came in a 1-1 draw on Sept. 1, 2007; last season, Kansas City went 2-0-1 against Toronto, outscoring the Reds 4-0 over three matches. Guevaras first goal came in the 53rd minute. He took Carl Robinsons pass at the edge of the penalty area, spun in front of defender Jonathan Leathers and fired past keeper Kevin Hartman into the upper right corner of the goal. Arnauds 25-yard blast got the Wizards within 2-1 in the 56th minute, but Guevara struck back in the 62nd to restore Torontos two-goal cushion. Arnaud scored from 22 yards in the 76th minute, closing the gap to 3-2. Toronto missed a chance to ice the game when Dwayne De Rosario put a penalty kick over the crossbar in the 80th minute, after a handball call against Michael Harrington. Brennan put the Reds up 1-0 in the 33rd minute, sending a left-footed shot just inside the near post from seven yards. Hartman had five saves and needs one more to tie Tony Meolas MLS career record of 1,136. Josh Freeman Jersey . Jose Reyes Jersey . - Maybe its time to start noticing Butler. Roddy White Jersey . Russell Westbrook totaled 17 points and seven assists, while James Harden scored 11 points for Oklahoma City, which has alternated wins and losses over the past seven games. Ndamukong Suh Jersey . Not only did Goodell get through one of the leagues most contentious and troubling periods -- a 4 1/2-month lockout of the players -- but he oversaw a highly successful season once a 10-year collective bargaining agreement was reached. Jackie Robinson Jersey . Haydar opened the scoring 92 seconds into the game and found the net on a power play 1:34 later to give the Monsters (11-17-3) an early 2-0 lead. T.J. Hensick assisted on both Haydar goals and finished with three assists.Coming off a three-point performance in which he assisted on one of the goals of the year, Ottawa Senators forward Jason Spezza may have put himself in the middle of Hart Trophy consideration. In a year in which the Sens were expected to be in rebuilding mode and not a realistic playoff contender, Spezza has his team four points clear of eighth place in the Eastern Conference. Spezzas comeback season has echoed the Sens rise from preseason also-ran to likely playoff participant. Interestingly, if you look back at Spezzas career, his play has gone hand-in-hand with the Senators team success or failure for as long as he has been in the league. Beginning with his breakout season in 2006 until 2008 - playing on a line with Daniel Alfredsson and Dany Heatley — Spezza averaged 90 points a season and the Sens made the playoffs each year, averaging 104 points in the standings and winning a total of 18 playoff games. In the next three years, however, the franchises struggles mirrored Spezzas on-ice performance. The Sens made the playoffs just once in that time and Spezza battled injuries and inconsistent play. But how times have changed: the 2011-12 season has marked a resurgence for both the Sens and Spezza. He is fourth in NHL scoring with 81 points and has been the catalyst offensively for a team that many expected would have trouble scoring goals. Not coincidentally, the numbers spell out the fact that as Spezza goes so too do the Sens. He has 56 points in the teams 39 wins and his best month was also the one in which the Sens were most successful. He tallied 21 points in February, while the team amassed an impressive 7-3-2 record to solidify themselves as a legitimate playoff contender. Spezza has also made those around him that much better. He is the centerpiece of onee of the best lines in hockey, helping Milan Michalek reach the 30-goal plateau for the first time in his career and become the player the Sens thought they were getting when they traded Heatley in 2009. Darryl Strawberry Jersey. Spezza has also been instrumental in the development of talented winger Colin Greening, who is fifth in rookie goal scoring. Spezza is joined by several worthy nominees for Hart Trophy consideration: Evgeni Malkin: Any MVP discussion must begin with the Penguins dynamic centre. Malkin has returned to his 2008 and 2009 levels after two injury-plagued, disappointing seasons (by his standards). He stepped into the void left by Sidney Crosby and is on pace for the most goals of his career. He has also re-introduced the question originally posed after his Art Ross Trophy performance in the 2009 postseason: Who is the Penguins best player? Henrik Lundqvist: The Rangers netminder is the best player on the top team - points wise - in the Eastern Conference. The Rangers have allowed the fewest goals in the conference by 16 with Lundqvist posting the best goals-against-average and save percentage marks of his career. Steven Stamkos: The Lightning sharpshooter is on pace for the most goals and points of his career and has 29 more goals than anyone else on the roster. His team is not likely to make the playoffs, but that is surely not his fault. Claude Giroux: An early season favourite, Giroux has put up consistent points all season, despite missing four games due to a concussion. It took six rounds in the shootout, but the Victoriaville Tigres earned the win on Friday night. Keith Hernandez Jersey . Goaltender David Honzik turned aside three of the six shooters he faced and made 29 saves in regular play as the Tigres out-lasted the Halifax Mooseheads 5-4 in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action. Brandon Hynes, Philippe Maillet, Yannick Dube and Samuel Groulx all scored on Halifaxs Frederic Piche to earn the shootout win for Victoriaville. The game was Honziks first back with the Tigres after playing for Team Cherry in the Canadian Hockey Leagues annual Top Prospects game on Wednesday night. Victoriaville forward Phillip Danault also played for Team Cherry, which lost 7-1 to Team Orr in the exhibition game designed to showcase draft-eligible players to National Hockey League scouts and executives. Although Danaults shootout attempt was one of two stopped by Piche on Friday night, he did score his 20th of the season at the 6:56 mark of the second period. Piche also held off Guillaume Naud in the shootout and stopped 25 shots. Halifax has now lost six games in a row, five in regulation as well as Fridays loss in extra time. Elsewhere in the QMJHL it was: Moncton 4 Cape Breton 3; Montreal 4 Rouyn-Noranda 1; Saint John 3 Baie-Comeau 2; Shawinigan 3 Chicoutimi 2; Drummondville 4 Val-dOr and Rimouski 4 Quebec 3. At Halifax, Charles-Antoine Roy, Yanni Gourde and Troy Vance scored in regulation time for the Tigres (25-19-4). Martin Frk scored two power-play goals for the Mooseheads (14-29-3), while Konrad Abeltshauser and Charles Bety also found the back of the net. --- Wildcats 4 Screaming Eagles 3 At Moncton, N.B., Devon MacAuslands hat trick lifted the Wildcats over Cape Breton. Jean Kristoff Grenier and Olivier Jodoin also tallied. --- Juniors 4 Huskies 1 At Verdun, Que., Jeremy Gouchie had back-to-back goals as Montreal sailed past Rouyn-Noranda. Philippe Lefebvre and Charles-Olivier Roussel both had power-play goals for the Juniors (32-7-7). Jeremi Janneteau was the lone scorer for the Huskies (8-35-3). --- Sea Dogs 3 Drakkar 2 At Baie-Comeau, Que., Steven Anthony put the game away with 3:21 left in the third period as Saint John sank the Drakkar. Mike Thomas and Danick Gauthier rounded out the attack for the Sea Dogs (36-5-3). Raphael Bussieres and Jean-Philippe Caron had markers for Baie-Comeau (7-32-9). --- Cataractes 3 Sagueneens 2 At Chicoutimi, Que., Michael Bournival had a power-play goal and set up two others as Shawinigan edged the Sagueneens. Dave Labrecque and Peter Sakaris also scored with the man advantage for the Cataractes (27-14-3). Dominic Poulin and Charles Hudon replied for Chicoutimi (16-21-9). --- Voltigeurs 4 Foreurs 2 At Drummondville, Que., Sean Couturier scored the first and last goals of the game as the Voltigeurs bested Val-dOr. Andre Bouvet-Morrissette and Marc-Olivier Vachon also tallied for Drummondville (30-12-6). Adam Jones and Matthieu Theriault supplied the offence for the Foreurs (16-24-5). --- Oceanic 4 Remparts 3 At Rimouski, Que., Jonathan Lavoies second goal of the night stood as the winner as the Oceanic upset Quebec. Felix Lefrancois and Michael Beaudry scored in the first period for Rimouski (24-22-2). Mikael Tam, Mirko Hoefflin and Ryan Bourque had singles for the Remparts (34-9-3). David Wright Jersey . Richie Gordon added 11 points for Western Carolina (3-4). Kyle Gaillard netted 11 points in the loss for William & Mary (2-4), as he was the only double-digit scorer in defeat. Western Carolina led 36-17 at intermission after scoring 20 points off 11 first-half turnovers by William & Mary. Andre Ethier Jersey . Louis Cardinals doubled up the Detroit Tigers, 8-4, in a rematch of the 2006 World Series. Yadier Molina went 3-for-5 and scored twice for the Cardinals, who took the opener of this three-game interleague matchup and have won three of four. Thaddeus Young Jersey . Meghan Dufault and Rebecca Kohler each had two goals and an assist while Cayley Mercer scored once and set-up two others in a 9-1 romp over Switzerland on Saturday. Wholesale NHL Jerseys . The loss was Montreals third in a row, each time with first place in the CFL East Division on the line, and was a smackdown on both offence and defence for the two-time defending Grey Cup champions. Tony Parker Jersey . Hornets coach Monty Williams said he could not project a return date for his all-star point guard, who is being monitored daily by a neurologist hired from outside the team. "Its up to the doctors," Williams said.MOSCOW -- Torontos Patrick Chan stumbled to second spot at the Cup of Russia Grand Prix figure skating event Saturday. Tomas Verner of the Czech Republic went from third to first to capture the gold medal. Chan led after a solid short program that saw him land a quad. But in the long program, he fell on his quad attempt and on two tries for triples. "I felt really good going in," Chan said during a conference call afterwards. "Of course I was the last skater, which is a challenge on its own, but I did everything that we planned I would do and was well prepared and felt good. "Sometimes you just go out and things dont click and you just dont land the jumps the way you want to and that happens. Overall I was really pleased with myself to be able to recover from the quad and move on. Thats something Im going to take from this competition." Chan said he felt confident heading into the quad attempt Saturday. "I went into it as I do in practice," he said. "I thought about my key words, staying over my legs and being really balanced and remembering where to step. "Sometimes you just have a little hesitation and thats just a lack of experience. I mean, its only my second time doing it in competition in a long program. Its all a learning experience." Chan and American Jeremy Abbott were ahead of Verner heading into Saturdays free skate. But both fell repeatedly and neither managed a quadruple jump. Verner didnt attempt a quad but stayed on his feet, although he stepped out of two axels. His crowd-pleasing program to Michael Jackson music was marked by a soaring open triple lutz and a fast triple-double-double cascade late in the program. In womens competition, Miki Ando of Japan rocketed from fifth after the short to take the gold ahead of her compatriot Akiko Suzuki in second. After a short clean program, Myriane Samson of St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Que., fell on two jumps to finish eighth. It was herr first overseas Grand Prix assignment. Early Doucet Jersey. "When you fall on those jumps in competition it just means more practice," said Samson. "I need to keep doing them until it becomes more automatic." In pairs, Russias Yuko Kavagut and Alexander Smirnov easily took the gold with tightly synchronized spins and long throws. Japans Narumi Takahashi and Mervin Tran took silver and Americans Amanda Evora and Mark Ladwig were third. Paige Lawrence of Kennedy, Sask., and Rudi Swiegers of Kipling, Sask., scored 154.67 to finish fifth. It was Verners first Grand Prix, and combined with the bronze he won at the Cup of China, it will take him to the Grand Prix Final in Beijing in December. "Im surprised ... I wasnt expecting to go there," said Verner, who switched coaches and moved to Canada for training this summer. Those disruptions had dissuaded him from attempting quads this season, but "now Im ready to put it in the program" for the Grand Prix Final, he said. Chan, who got gold at Skate Canada, also gets a berth in the final. The Canadian said hes learning how to deal with travelling to compete in Europe. "Coming to Europe isnt the best for me," he said. "Its the travel, Im not the greatest at long flights. "I try to fall asleep on the flight but usually I land and my legs dont feel good. But I came here early to kind of work out the kinks and feel comfortable here since Ive never been here before so it worked great. I think Im starting to learn how to get up in the plane once in a while on long flights and keep myself busy and try to keep my legs a little more awake." Abbott, who fell twice, said part of the problem was that his training has been sporadic because of boot problems. Although disappointed that he may have missed his chance to reach the final, he tried his best to brush off the performance. "The ice is slippery, sometimes we fall," he said. Tim Duncan Jersey. Mikhail Grabovski scored twice, including an empty-netter, and Duncan Milroy had a goal and two assists to pace the Bulldogs, who are 6-0-1 in their past seven outings and 29-21-7 on the season. ´ ´ ´

Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Rookie LeSean McCoy rushed for 99 yards and scored the game-winning touchdown late in the fourth quarter after the Eagles capitalized on a blocked field goal to pick up a much-needed 24-20 victory over the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field. Chris Bosh Jersey . McCoy was filling in for an injured Brian Westbrook, who missed his fourth game of the year. Donovan McNabb completed 23-of-32 passes for 244 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception for Philadelphia (6-4), which snapped a two- game skid. DeSean Jackson hauled in eight passes for 107 yards and a score for the victors, who are tied with the Giants for second place in the NFC East, a game behind Dallas. "It was a must-win situation and as a team we needed to come out with that attitude," said McNabb. "I thought all week at practice guys had that attitude. I thought our effort was where it needed to be today." Jay Cutler connected on 24-of-43 passes for 171 yards, a touchdown, and an interception for the Bears (4-6), who have dropped three straight games. Kahlil Bell rushed the ball four times for 81 yards. Kellen Davis had a TD catch in defeat as Chicago was dealt a severe blow to its playoff chances. "Were running out of time," admitted Cutler. "The window is getting smaller and smaller. Each game becomes more important as we get down the line." The Bears had a chance to build on their 20-17 lead early in the fourth. A McCoy fumble after a 17-yard run set Chicago up at the Philadelphia 37. The Bears lost two yards on three plays and brought Robbie Gould in to attempt a 48-yard field goal. However, Antonio Dixon blocked the field goal to stay within three points with 11:01 to play. McNabb, a native of Chicago, then orchestrated Philadelphias game-winning 11- play, 62-yard drive. The Eagles converted a pair of third downs on the march. Faced with a 3rd-and-1 from their own 47, McNabb got a fresh set of downs with a QB sneak. On a 3rd-and-6 from the Bears 20, McNabb connected with Jackson on a 10-yard pass play. McCoy took the handoff on the next play and made his way to the outside where he found a hole on the left side. McCoy quickly hit the gap and scampered into the end zone for a 24-20 lead with 5:31 remaining. After each team was forced to punt, the Bears got the ball back at their own 21 with 1:51 to go and no timeouts. After converting on fourth down, Cutler spiked the ball at his own 37 with 52 ticks left. Sean Jones then intercepted Cutler to seal the win for Philadelphia. The Eagles marched right down the field on the opening possession of the game. On a 3rd-and-1, Michael Vick came into the game and rushed for 34 yards to the Chicago 32. However, Philadelphias offense sputtered from there and David Akers drilled a 25-yard field goal for a 3-0 edge with 10:54 left. After forcing the Bears to punt, the Eagles put together an eight-play, 76- yard scoring drive. Brent Celeks 21-yard reception highlighted the march that Jason Avant capped off with a 13-yard TD catch for a 10-0 lead with 2:48 to go. The Eagles used a no-huddle offense for a majority of the first quarter. "We knew how important it was to start fast against this crew," said Eagles coach Andy Reid. "We wanted to try and do that the best we could. We thought utilizing the no-huddle would allow us to get into a rhythm and catch them off-guard." Chicago bridged the first and second periods with an eight-play, 30-yard drive. Goulds 45-yard field goal made it 10-3 with 14:45 left until half. Gould drilled a pair of 28-yard field goals later in the second to cut the Bears deficit to 10-9 at the half. The Eagles turned the ball over twice in the second quarter. Chicago took advantage of a short field in the early stages of the third to take the lead. A 16-yard punt from Sav Rocca combined with an ineligible man downfield penalty set up Chicago at its own 49. A 23-yard pass to Earl Bennett on first down put the Bears at the Eagles 28. Chicago went three-and-out from there and was forced to settle for a 49-yard Gould field goal to go ahead 12-10 with 10:26 left. Following a series of punts, the quick-strike Eagles needed just two plays to take the lead back. After Jeremy Maclin caught a 16-yard pass, McNabb faked a handoff before hitting Jackson from 48 yards out for a 17-12 margin with 5:53 to go in the third. Chicago fought right back with a TD to take the lead again. On the sixth play of a 55-yard drive, Cutler lofted a perfect pass to Davis in the right corner of the end zone from 15 yards out. Matt Forte caught the two-point conversion in the end zone to make it 20-17 with 2:52 remaining. Game Notes: McCoy had 20 carries...Westbrook did not play due to a concussion that he suffered against the Chargers last Sunday. He has missed three games this season because of a concussion that is expected to keep him out for some time...Maclin caught six passes for 64 yards...Forte rushed for 34 yards on 14 carries and hauled in four passes for 20 yards...Bears tight end Greg Olsen caught six passes for 42 yards. Bennett hauled in five passes for 57 yards...Eagles cornerback Asante Samuel left the game due to a stinger...The Bears hold a 26-9-1 lead in the all-time series with Philadelphia, which dates back to 1933. James knew hed just seen Wades best. And it still wasnt enough for the Miami Heat to snap this dreadful losing streak. James scored 28 points and added five assists, lifting the Cleveland Cavaliers past the Heat 97-90 Monday night - his first win in nine career trips to Miami and enough to send the 2006 NBA champions to their 14th straight loss, the second-worst slide in franchise history. "D-Wade played incredibly well," James said, "but we made more plays." Wade scored 42 points for the Heat, who are 8-32 overall - 2 1/2 games better than Minnesota in the battle for the leagues worst record. The Heat started 0-17 in their expansion 1988-89 season, and with defending NBA champion San Antonio coming in Thursday, its not getting easy anytime soon. "I feel great empathy for our guys," Heat coach Pat Riley said. Wade scored Miamis final 18 points and had 32 in the second half, both franchise records. The rest of the Heat in the second half? They shot 3-for-21, managing six points. "Right now, we absolutely need him," Riley said. "Hes doing everything he can do." Wade hit a three-pointer with 30.8 seconds left to get the Heat within 92-88, before James essentially sealed it with two free throws 4.8 seconds later. Wades three was Miamis only make in 12 attempts from beyond the arc, but marked the teams 129th straight game with at least one connection from long range. That streak doesnt matter to the Heat. The 14-in-a-row is the one they cant snap, no matter what they try. "Were going to win one of them," Wade said. "Every game, theres that hope." Shaquille ONeal finished with 10 points, all in the first half, for Miami, and Udonis Haslem added nine points and 13 rebounds. ONeal will undergo an MRI on Tuesday to determine if the severity of the lingering hip injury has changed. He did not speak with reporters after the game. Zydrunas Ilgauskas scored 13 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the Cavaliers, who are 8-1 in January. "Were just playing great basketball," James said. Drew Gooden scored 11 points while Sasha Pavlovic and Damon Jones each scored 10 for Cleveland, which tied the game on Pavvlovics three-pointer on the first possession of the second half and never trailed again. Fernando Valenzuela Jersey. . "Theyre a way better team than the record displays," Gooden said. "They have great players and they just have to find a way to get it done." Things didnt start well for Miami, which trailed 12-5 when ONeal went into the Heat locker room, followed by trainer Ron Culp, with 8:33 left in the opening period. Culp re-taped ONeals ailing left hip, which kept him out of eight straight games from Dec. 28 through Jan. 11. Though limping, ONeal was effective at times. He went 4-for-6 for 10 points in the half, his backup Mark Blount went 3-for-5 for another eight points - plus took a charging foul against James with 0.3 seconds left before intermission - and the Heat went into the break leading 52-49. Cleveland seemed poised to pull away at times in the third, opening the quarter with a quick 7-0 run to erase Miamis lead, and going up by seven points on two occasions later in the period. "The best third quarter we had all season," James said. But Wade - who had seven assists in the half, none in the third period - scored Miamis last eight points of the quarter, including a jumper with 36.7 seconds left to get his team within 72-70 entering the fourth. He went 6-for-10 from the floor in the third, while his teammates combined to shoot 2-for-11. He didnt get much help in the fourth either, and the futility lived on. "To get a win against this team, its a good win for us," Cleveland coach Mike Brown said. Notes: Cleveland had lost nine straight overall in Miami. .. Both teams took part in a pre-game ceremony to mark Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and Heat centre Alonzo Mourning read excerpts of the civil rights leaders famed "I have a dream" speech. .. Although the Cleveland media guide lists Jones as a Patriots fan, the Cavs guard says he really is a Dallas Cowboys fan - but is rooting for New England in the Super Bowl anyway. "I want to see history," Jones said. .. Wade, who ranks seventh in the NBA in free-throw attempts, didnt get to the line until 45 seconds remained in the first half. .. James had the ball in his hands against Ricky Davis to end each of the first three quarters, going scoreless every time. [PhotoAgencies] LONDON - Sir Alex Ferguson insists Manchester United paid the price for a refereeing error in the 1-0 defeat at Arsenal as the Premier League title race was blown wide open. Ferguson believes referee Chris Foy got it wrong when he failed to award an 88th minute penalty following Gael Clichys clumsy challenge on Michael Owen. The United manager acknowledged Arsenal had a good claim for a spot-kick turned down when Nemanja Vidic handled Theo Walcotts cross in the first half. But having seen Chelsea close the gap at the top to three points 24 hours earlier after benefiting from two dubious decisions in a 2-1 victory over Tottenham, Ferguson attempted to set the agenda ahead of the Blues decisive trip to Old Trafford on May 8. The title race swung Chelseas way 11 months ago when Didier Drogba scored the winning goal despite being in an offside position in the corresponding fixture and Ferguson is anxious to avoid a repeat. Its too big a game not to get the decisions right, Ferguson said. It balances out in that respect but I think it was difficult to see that one (Vidics handball) but the one at the end, Clichy knew, he put his hands up in horror. Obviously, it gives Chelsea a major chance now and thats what happens when you get these decisions. They (Chelsea) got one at Old Trafford last season so thats the worry now. But in terms of ability - a game at Old Trafford, the supporters will be ready for it - and so will our players. Aaron Ramsey struck in the 56th minute to cap a period of Arsenal dominance and Ferguson admitted his side only found anything like its normal form in the final stages of the game. After that we dominated and I think we deserved something, he said. I think we didnt use the ball properly but once we lost the goal we were in their half most of the time. Arsenal now lies six points off the top with three games remaining and manager Arsene Wenger refuses to call time on the clubs ambitions of being crowned champion. Its chances will be improved if Chelsea beats United and Wenger admitted he would be backing Carlo Ancelottis side when the top two meet. I have not given up all hope because we will fight until the last second of the season, he said. We have been unlucky this season. Lets hope we have better luck in the last three weeks. The best position remains Manchester United and second best is Chelsea because they have to play United next week. I still make United strong favorites because when you play at home for the title you have still an advantage. If we want to have a small chance it is in our interests for Chelsea to win and for us to win our games. Then its mathematically possible. But I still say United has the advantage. Wenger admitted his sides recent failings were still likely to prove costly and he pin-pointed its previous three games as the moments when its bid faltered. Last week, at Bolton, against Liverpool when we were 1-0 up in the 97th minute and we were 3-1 up against Tottenham, he said. If we do not win the championship, we could have made nine points from these games and we would have been ahead of United. Samir Nasri came off at halftime with a hamstring strain while Cesc Fabregas missed the game with a thigh problem but both should be available to face Stoke next weekend.
